Sharp Memorial School For The Blind

Sharp Memorial School, established in the year 1887, was the first school for the blind in India. It is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas some 270 km North of New Delhi. It is a hostel-based institution with blind children from all over North India. Its vision is to educate and rehabilitate blind and poor-sighted children.  A low vision tertiary centre is established for stocking low vision non-optical devices and accessories as well as for technical assessment and rehabilitation of low vision children. Computer training, home economics and music are part of the curriculum. Vocational training also is being taught. Low vision training is imparted to teachers from all over India and abroad. It also works as a study centre for imparting special education in visual impairment.
